Tuberous Breast Deformity

Tuberous breast deformity is a difference in the way the breast develops, present from the time the breasts form rather than the result of injury or illness. It can affect one breast or both, and it ranges from subtle to pronounced. Many patients have lived with it for years without ever hearing it named, aware that something about the shape looks different but unsure what or why. Putting a name to it is often the first step toward addressing it. At Altris, we treat it as what it is: a clearly defined structural problem with a deeply personal solution.
Understanding the condition
Tuberous breasts often have a narrow base, a tight fold beneath the breast, an enlarged or puffy areola, asymmetry between the two sides, or fullness that sits high near the areola rather than below. Because the difference is structural and not simply a matter of size, correcting it well takes more than a standard augmentation.
Where this fits in our practice
We see tuberous breast deformity as sitting between reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, and we treat it that way. There is a clearly defined problem to solve, the breast has not formed in a typical shape, and our work is to rebuild a more natural one. At the same time, the goal is personal and aesthetic. That combination is where our experience is strongest. We work across complex reconstruction and cosmetic breast surgery, and correcting tuberous breasts draws on both.
Our approach
Good outcomes start with understanding. Before we talk about technique, we take the time to understand what concerns you about your breasts and what you want them to look and feel like. Two patients with similar anatomy often have very different goals, and the plan should follow the patient, not a formula. From there, we build a surgical plan suited to your anatomy and your priorities, drawing on the full range of techniques we use in reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery.

our philosophy
After years in clinical practice, we have watched patients complete treatment, receive a clean bill of health, and still feel like strangers in their own bodies. Fragmented care, time-pressured appointments, and a healthcare system focused on disease management rather than whole-person recovery leaves too many people stranded between surviving and truly living.
