Katie Weichman, MD
Katie Weichman, MD is a board certified plastic surgeon and co-founder of Altris Reconstructive Wellness, a specialty practice on the Upper East Side of Manhattan focused entirely on breast reconstruction.
Her clinical work centers on microsurgical breast reconstruction, including autologous reconstruction using a patient's own tissue, alongside revision reconstruction and survivorship care. Much of her practice is devoted to patients weighing the trade-offs between reconstructive options, and to those living with a result that can still be improved. Her research on breast reconstruction outcomes, published across more than a decade, informs how she explains those trade-offs in consultation.
Dr. Weichman received her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine and trained in plastic surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, followed by microsurgery fellowship training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Before co-founding Altris she served as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program Director and Director of Breast Reconstruction Services at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and later practiced at NYU Langone Health.
She co-founded Altris with Dr. Vishal Thanik around a shared conviction: that reconstruction is not finished when the incisions heal, and that recovery should be measured in comfort, function, and the return of an ordinary life.
Dr. Weichman writes regularly with Dr. Thanik in the practice's Expert Insights series, where they take patient questions about breast reconstruction seriously enough to answer them at length.
Patients seeking a second opinion on an existing reconstruction, or considering reconstruction for the first time, can reach the practice at (917) 633-5750.
